Safeguard government data systems from DOGE commission overreach
To: Gov. Pritzker
From: A constituent in Orland Park, IL
February 2, 2025
The revelation that Elon Musk's DOGE commission has gained access to sensitive Treasury payment systems handling Social Security, Medicare, and other vital government programs is highly concerning. This data includes millions of Americans' personal information that could be compromised if mishandled. We must press for immediate safeguards and accountability measures. There needs to be a full investigation into how this access was granted and what data was accessed. Strong data protection protocols must be put in place to prevent any unauthorized use or disclosure of this sensitive information. Harsh penalties should be imposed for any violations. It is unacceptable for an outside commission with unclear motives to have unfettered access to systems that are critical for delivering essential government services and benefits that millions of Americans rely upon. Politically-motivated "meddling" that could jeopardize these payment systems is an alarming overreach that threatens to undermine core functions of government. Swift action is needed to revoke DOGE's access, assess if any data breaches occurred, enact robust security measures, and ensure there are stringent privacy protections with oversight. The integrity of these crucial systems and the personal data they hold must be fiercely guarded against abuse or exploitation for any agenda besides their intended public service purpose.
