An Open Letter

To: Sen. Padilla, Rep. Huffman, Sen. Schiff

From: A constituent in Petaluma, CA

January 3

Subject: Urgent Request for Congressional Action to Uphold the Constitution I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent to urge you to immediately exercise Congress’s constitutional authority as a check on executive power. The President’s recent actions represent a dangerous escalation of authority that threatens democratic norms, international stability, and the rule of law. Regardless of party affiliation, no President is above the Constitution, and it is Congress’s sworn duty to restrain executive overreach—especially when actions risk human life, violate international law, or bypass congressional authorization. The framers of our Constitution vested Congress with the power to declare war, oversee the use of military force, control funding, and conduct oversight precisely to prevent unilateral, tyrannical decision-making by any one individual. When Congress fails to act, it becomes complicit in the erosion of those safeguards. I urge you to: • Demand full transparency and accountability for the President’s actions • Reassert Congress’s authority over war powers and foreign intervention • Use all lawful oversight tools available, including hearings, funding restrictions, and formal investigations • Publicly reaffirm your commitment to constitutional governance over partisan loyalty History will remember whether Congress stood up when it mattered. I ask you to choose the Constitution, the rule of law, and the people you represent. I expect a written response explaining the steps you are taking to fulfill your constitutional responsibilities.
