Oppose Unfair Tax Breaks for the Wealthy and Corporations

To: Rep. Smucker, Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman

From: A verified voter in Strasburg, PA

November 13

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the recent tax policy changes—both legislative and regulatory—that disproportionately benefit the ultra-wealthy and large corporations at the expense of working American families and the federal budget. I am specifically referring to the provisions of the recent "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (OBBBA) and subsequent administrative actions by the Treasury Department and IRS, which have been detailed in recent reporting, including in The New York Times. The core concern is the massive transfer of wealth disguised as economic policy. Non-partisan analyses have shown that the OBBBA and related measures will overwhelmingly favor the top 1% of earners, including a projected trillion-dollar tax cut for the wealthiest over the next decade. Key provisions that contribute to this unfairness include: • Estate Tax Giveaways: The dramatic increase in the Estate and Gift Tax Exemption to $15 million (or $30 million for married couples) effectively shields the fortunes of the nation's wealthiest families from taxation. • Business Tax Loopholes: Making the 20% pass-through business deduction permanent and providing permanent 100% bonus depreciation continue to deliver the largest benefits to high-income business owners and large corporations. • Regulatory Overreach: Of particular concern are the recent under-the-radar proposed regulations and notices issued by the Treasury Department that appear to enact tax cuts without Congressional approval. These rulings provide breaks to wealthy sectors, such as private equity firms, large crypto companies, and foreign real estate investors, often by softening the impact of the Corporate Alternative Minimum Tax (CAMT) intended to ensure large profitable corporations pay their fair share. These massive tax cuts are projected to add trillions of dollars to the national debt. Furthermore, they are paired with, or require, deep cuts to vital programs that support our most vulnerable citizens, including reductions to Medicaid and food assistance. This pattern—of enriching the few while demanding sacrifice from the many—is fiscally irresponsible and morally indefensible. I urge you to take immediate action to champion a tax code that is genuinely fair and equitable. This must include: 1 Publicly opposing the current and proposed Treasury Department regulations that grant unlegislated tax relief to powerful special interests. 2 Supporting legislation to reverse the most egregious giveaways, such as the estate tax increase and disproportionate pass-through deductions. 3 Prioritizing a tax structure that asks the ultra-wealthy and corporations to pay their fair share to fund essential services, rather than exploding the deficit and gutting critical programs. As your constituent, I look to you to represent the interests of working families, not Wall Street. Please let me know what specific steps you are taking to oppose these policy decisions.
