An Open Letter

To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Pfluger, Sen. Cornyn

From: A verified voter in Killeen, TX

July 13

I am a constituent from Texas, and I am writing to urge you to oppose Section 1217 of the National Defense Authorization Act unless that provision is removed. Section 1217 would establish a “U.S.-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative.” I am concerned that this provision would create a level of military integration and dependency between the United States and another country that could be extremely difficult to reverse in the future. The United States must retain full control over its own defense policies, technology decisions, and military commitments. While cooperation with allies can be valuable, we should be cautious about creating arrangements that could limit future administrations and Congresses in their ability to make independent decisions about U.S. national security. I urge you to vote against cloture on the NDAA unless Section 1217 is removed, and to use every appropriate legislative means available to prevent this provision from becoming law. Thank you for your attention to this matter and for representing your constituents.
