Military Readiness Took Decades to Build. Hegseth's Cuts Take Effect in Months.

I am writing as your constituent to demand that you exercise your constitutional Article I authority to halt Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s reckless plan to eliminate or downgrade 20% of America’s general and flag officer positions. Running the United States Armed Forces is not a Saturday morning cartoon, an 80s action movie, or a sandbox for an unqualified political appointee playing GI Joe at the direct expense of national security. At Marine Corps Base Quantico on September 30, 2026, Secretary Hegseth disgraced his office with vulgar, schoolyard rhetoric—mocking active-duty personnel while boasting that "the patriotic cowboys are in, with testosterone testing on top." This childish bravado demonstrates an appalling ignorance of modern warfighting. Victory relies on combined-arms logistics, global supply lines, electronic warfare, missile defense, and multinational alliances. These capabilities are anchored by senior officers who spend 25 to 35 years mastering doctrine, leading joint commands, and preventing catastrophic strategic blunders. This 20% cut is the escalation of a documented purge. Hegseth has already forced out dozens of top commanders—including Gen. CQ Brown, Adm. Lisa Franchetti, and Vice Adm. Shoshana Chatfield—while striking qualified Black and female colonels from promotion lists over objections from his own (now-resigned) Army Secretary, Dan Driscoll. These removals lack any performance-based rationale. Furthermore, pushing his chosen Joint Chiefs nominee, Dan "Razin" Caine, despite severe statutory qualification issues exposes the hypocrisy of claiming this is about "merit." Wiping out nearly 170 senior billets by January 2027 based on loyalty tests does not "cut bloat"—it decapitates institutional memory, disrupts theater commands across the Pacific and Europe, and destroys the morale of mid-career officers. Congress holds statutory authority under Title 10 and controls the Pentagon's budget. I urge you to take immediate legislative action: 1. Adopt NDAA Transparency: Support Rep. Pat Ryan’s amendment requiring the Pentagon to report to Congress within five days with performance justifications whenever a senior officer is removed. 2. Mandate a GAO Audit: Direct the GAO to audit the criteria used to select billets for reduction. 3. Subpoena Hegseth: Summon him before the Armed Services Committees to testify under oath on operational readiness risks. 4. Place Holds on Replacements: Pause Senate confirmations until compliant justifications are delivered for created vacancies. 5. Condition DoD Funding: Restrict administrative appropriations until an objective, non-partisan justification is provided. National security cannot survive leadership driven by juvenile delusions. Do your job, assert your oversight, and protect the integrity of the military from this dangerous farce.
