Reject discriminatory HB 28, protect transgender rights
To: Rep. Huizenga
From: A verified voter in Kalamazoo, MI
January 9
The proposed federal legislation HB 28 aims to ban transgender participation in sports programs that receive federal funding. This sweeping measure defines a person's sex solely based on their reproductive biology and genetics at birth, disregarding their legal gender identity. If enacted, it would immediately out and exclude transgender athletes across the nation from school and college sports teams. The scope is alarmingly broad, potentially impacting activities beyond traditional sports like swimming or volleyball. It could bar transgender individuals from competing in darts, dancing, chess, and other recreational pursuits where arguments of unfair advantage lack credible evidence. This bill represents an alarming attempt to deny the legitimacy of transgender identities and strip away legal protections for an entire community. Such legislation opens the door to further erosion of rights and perpetuates harmful discrimination. While framed as protecting fairness in women's sports, it is an calculated first step toward undermining transgender legal recognition across all aspects of life. We cannot allow this dangerous precedent. Protecting the rights, dignity and well-being of all citizens should be the priority. I urge you to stand against this discriminatory measure and vote no on HB 28.
