Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to support and co-sponsor the Native American Voting Rights Act.
Native voters face barriers that most Americans never encounter — polling places hours away, no residential address for mail delivery, and tribal IDs rejected at the ballot box. These aren't inconveniences; they're structural exclusions from democracy, and Congress has the power to fix them.
As you may know, NAVRA would require equitable polling access on Native lands, accommodate voters without residential addresses, and mandate universal acceptance of tribal IDs.
Named as the Frank Harrison, Elizabeth Peratrovich, and Miguel Trujillo Native American Voting Rights Act (S. 2702 / H.R. 5008) has been before Congress since 2021. That’s too long.
Along with other bills like the John Lewis bill, this one addresses systematic injustices.
The biased rulings by the anti-voting conservatives on the Supreme Court have made every voting bill that is actually helpful an urgent priority. This is one of those. Prove to the Robed Injustices that they are wrong.
Vote yes and get this done. Thank you.
