I am writing to express my strong opposition to House Bill 4 (formally 385) and House Bill 425. As a concerned citizen and an avid supporter of free speech, I believe these bills pose a significant threat to our fundamental rights and the invaluable role that libraries play in our communities.
Books are an incredible source of learning and one of my favorite pastimes. They provide us with knowledge, foster critical thinking, and open our minds to diverse perspectives. The Hoover Library, in particular, has been an essential resource for me and countless others, offering access to a wealth of information and enriching our lives in immeasurable ways.
The proposed legislation to ban books and criminalize libraries is deeply troubling. Such measures undermine the principles of free speech and intellectual freedom that are the bedrock of our democracy. Libraries should be sanctuaries of knowledge, not targets of censorship and criminalization.
I urge you to vote against House Bill 4 (formally 385) and House Bill 425. Protecting the freedom to read and access information is crucial for the continued growth and enlightenment of our society. Knowledge is power, and it is our duty to ensure that this power remains accessible to all.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I trust that you will consider the far-reaching implications of these bills and stand in support of free speech and the invaluable role of libraries.
