The proposed rescissions package would have devastating consequences for global health initiatives and local news coverage. It seeks to slash billions in funding for vital programs like the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which has saved millions of lives worldwide by combating HIV/AIDS through prevention and treatment efforts. Undermining PEPFAR's vital work will undoubtedly lead to increased HIV transmission and loss of life. Furthermore, the cuts to public broadcasting entities like NPR and PBS threaten to erode access to local news and emergency communications, especially in rural areas where these stations play an essential role. At a time when the spread of misinformation is rampant, preserving trustworthy local news sources should be a priority. I urge you to vote against this misguided rescissions package. Its severe cuts to global health programs and public media undermine humanitarian efforts and transparent journalism - both pillars of a free and just society. Fiscal responsibility need not come at the expense of such essential services that protect human life and democratic principles. Reject this bill and safeguard funding for PEPFAR, NPR, PBS, and other critical programs under threat.
