Stand Up to Trump!
To: Sen. Banks, Rep. Houchin, Sen. Young
From: A constituent in New Albany, IN
January 29
Donald Trump is acting exactly like a dictator. He is bypassing all of the norms, laws, and processes that have been set up through the Constitution. Someone needs to stand up to him regardless of party. He is playing with people‘s literal lives and I would hope that you would actually care about your own constituents. I did not vote for you and I never will vote for you but at the very least put the country over party. Now is not the time for the country to be run like a mafia family. Find some courage to do the right thing. And if you’re having trouble knowing what is the right thing, here are some verses from the Bible: Psalm 82:3 Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Proverbs 14:31 Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God. Proverbs 31:8-9 Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy. Isaiah 58:6-8 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Exodus 22:21 Do not mistreat or oppress a foreigner, for you were foreigners in Egypt. Deuteronomy 10:18 He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. Matthew 25:36-36 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me 1 Peter 4:8-9 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling I hope that clears up any and all confusion.
