The SAVE Act poses a significant threat to the voting rights of millions of eligible American citizens, particularly married women who have changed their legal name. Requiring restrictive forms of documentation that may not reflect a person's current legal name creates unnecessary barriers to participating in our democracy. The right to vote is a fundamental freedom that should be safeguarded, not restricted through burdensome and discriminatory measures. There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud by non-citizens that would justify such draconian legislation. In fact, cases of non-citizen voting are exceptionally rare and already carry severe penalties. This Act would do little to address a non-existent problem while disenfranchising millions who lack the specific documentation required. I urge you to oppose the SAVE Act and any legislation that threatens to strip eligible citizens of their constitutional right to vote. Our elections should be free, fair and accessible to all qualified voters, not obstructed by partisan attempts at voter suppression under the guise of election security. Protecting every citizen's ability to make their voice heard at the ballot box should be a paramount priority.
