Invoke the 25th Amendment Based on Cognitive Decline Evidence
To: Pres. Trump
From: A constituent in Irvine, CA
January 11
I am writing to urge you to take immediate action regarding President Trump's apparent cognitive decline by supporting invocation of the 25th Amendment. Recent expert analysis by clinical psychologists Dr. John Gartner and Dr. Harry Segal has identified alarming symptoms consistent with frontotemporal dementia, a progressive brain condition that affects behavior, speech, and motor function.
Dr. Gartner, a neuropsychologist, has documented specific deterioration in Trump's psychomotor abilities, particularly a wide-based gait that he describes as "almost a dead ringer telltale sign of frontotemporal dementia." Video analysis from Trump's recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in August 2025 shows Trump struggling to walk straight down a red carpet, with his right foot swinging in a semicircle pattern, causing him to veer left and repeatedly overcorrect. Dr. Gartner compared this walking pattern to someone who would fail a DUI sobriety test.
This motor dysfunction compounds previously documented verbal deterioration. Frontotemporal dementia is a rare condition affecting the front and sides of the brain that develops slowly but progressively worsens over several years. Dr. Gartner notes that dementia causes deterioration of all faculties and functions, raising serious questions about fitness for office.
The contrast between these observable symptoms and White House physician Dr. Barbabella's April 2025 assessment claiming Trump exhibits "excellent cognitive and physical health" is deeply troubling. Both Dr. Segal and Dr. Gartner have noted that the cognitive tests Trump boasts about should be easy for anyone without impairment, making high scores meaningless as evidence of cognitive health.
The 25th Amendment exists precisely for situations where a president's capacity to execute the duties of office is compromised. Given the progressive nature of frontotemporal dementia and the mounting evidence of cognitive and motor decline, I urge you to publicly call for invocation of Section 4 of the 25th Amendment. The stakes are too high to ignore these warning signs.
