While you are on recess, Americans’ costs are exploding.
Car insurance is up 56%. Public transportation is up 14%. Grocery bills have climbed 17% since 2022. This is not sustainable, and it is not accidental. This is a policy failure. And it is a policy failure Congress has the power, and the responsibility, to fix.
Donald Trump’s reckless tariffs are directly driving up the cost of everything from furniture to food. At the same time, corporations are seizing the moment to hike prices and rake in record profits. This is price gouging. Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Jan Schakowsky’s Price Gouging Prevention Act would put a stop to it. It would give the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general the authority to hold these corporations accountable. That bill is sitting in Congress right now. You could pass it today.
You also have the power to repeal Trump’s unchecked authority to impose tariffs that triggered this recent spike in the first place. These two actions would bring relief to working families across the country. But they cannot happen if Congress is on vacation.
You were elected to represent us, not abandon us. Get back to Washington. End the recess. Pass the Price Gouging Prevention Act. Repeal Trump’s tariff powers. Do your job.
