On Holocaust Memorial Day, you denounced the horrors of the Shoah and the importance of teaching its lessons to future generations. You described the propaganda the Nazis used that led to the harassment of Jews in universities and communities. You spoke about October 7th - the most horrific massacre against the Jewish people since the Holocaust - perpetrated by Hamas and their Palestinian sympathizers. You spoke against the ferocious surge of anti-Semitism on social media and college campuses, where Jewish students are being accosted with chants and posters calling for the annihilation of Israel and the Jews; and they are blocked, harassed and attacked for being Jewish. We appreciate your words and agree that to prevent anti-Semitism, civil societies need to be vigilant and outspoken against anti-Semitism. However, they also need to create and enforce laws that prevent the spread of hateful propaganda, and enforce laws to protect all Americans from acts of prejudice and hate. American universities received over $54 billion in donations from multiple foreign entities, including countries that provide financing and sanctuary to terrorist groups backed by Iran. This “Pay for Hate” has propagandized American youth against Israel, the Jewish People, and Democracy itself. The Democratic Party holds a majority in the Senate, and we implore you to influence the Senate to pass the DETERRENT ACT (H.R. 5933), that will slash the foreign-gift reporting threshold; provide transparency to Congress, intelligence agencies, and the public; and enforce repercussions for non-compliant universities, such as fines and loss of Title IV funding. Moreover, we implore you to protect Jewish students under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. Withhold funding and fire administrations that do not protect Jewish students. Order local police to clear out these illegal encampments and make American universities places where all Americans are welcome.
