Habeas Corpus? Emoluments? Trump Is Shredding the Constitution!!

I am writing today as a concerned Alaskan and American citizen to urge you—regardless of party—to speak out in defense of the United States Constitution. Over the weekend, Americans witnessed something unprecedented: silence from the Republican Party following an open suggestion by White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller that the administration is considering suspending the writ of habeas corpus. This would amount to declaring martial law—something no president can do unilaterally, as courts have made clear time and again. Yet not one Republican member of Congress, save for Senator Rand Paul, has spoken publicly against it. Also concerning is the announcement that the Trump administration intends to accept a $400 million luxury jet from the Qatari royal family—a so-called “gift” to be used as Air Force One during Trump’s presidency and retained by him afterward. This violates both the spirit and the letter of the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause, which explicitly bars any U.S. official from accepting gifts or payments from foreign states without the consent of Congress. The Framers knew the dangers of foreign entanglements and the corrupting influence of unchecked executive power. That’s why they enshrined limits in the Constitution. Their wisdom is being tested now more than ever. What’s happening is not politics as usual—it is a slow-motion dismantling of the democratic principles we were all taught to revere. And silence is complicity. You swore an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” That oath is not conditional. It doesn’t depend on who holds power or which party you belong to. It calls for courage when the Constitution is under threat—and right now, it is. I ask you to stand up for our democracy by doing three things: 1. Publicly oppose any suspension of habeas corpus by the executive branch. 2. Demand transparency and accountability regarding the acceptance of foreign gifts. 3. Affirm that no president is above the Constitution—and that Congress, not the courts or the media, must act to defend it. The world is watching. So are your Alaskans. Please speak out now.
