The recent fatal shooting of a 37-year-old mother by ICE in Minneapolis, reports of children being zip-tied during enforcement actions, and the unauthorized military operation in Venezuela that seized a sitting head of state demonstrate an administration operating without constitutional constraints. Mitch McConnell proved during Obama's presidency that a disciplined Senate minority can effectively paralyze government operations for years. You must now employ these same tactics. End all unanimous consent agreements immediately. Force quorum calls repeatedly to require constant physical presence on the floor. Demand recorded roll-call votes on every single procedural motion and nomination, no matter how routine. Make every inch of legislative progress expensive in time and political capital. The administration has already designated critics as domestic terrorists according to right-wing movements, crossed international borders without congressional authorization, and overseen federal agents using lethal force against civilians. A coalition representing millions of Americans has written to Congress demanding action against DHS. These are not normal times requiring normal procedures. Block every appointment to every position. Without confirmed officials, the administration cannot effectively implement its agenda. Use every procedural tool available: holds on nominations, objections to unanimous consent, demands for full debate time, and procedural motions that consume floor time. The Senate rules provide minority members with substantial power if they have the discipline to use it consistently. Your constituents need you to fight with the same ruthless efficiency that Republicans demonstrated. Make the Senate floor a battleground where nothing moves without maximum effort. The stakes are too high for business as usual.
