As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to vote NO on confirming Todd Blanche as Attorney General. In his current role as Acting Attorney General, Mr. Blanche used the power of the federal government to run a collusive legal scheme to protect his former client. He has already violated his oath of office, making him disqualified for a permanent appointment. If we cannot trust him to uphold the Constitution as Acting Attorney General, we cannot expect him to do so as the permanent head of our justice system. Yesterday, a federal judge completely exposed and threw out the fake lawsuit and backroom settlement that Mr. Blanche orchestrated between Donald Trump and the Internal Revenue Service. The court ruled that the entire case was brought for an "improper purpose"—an act of bad faith to trick the judiciary into giving a corrupt deal a fake stamp of legitimacy. Because this abuse of the legal system was so shocking, the judge took the extraordinary step of referring Mr. Blanche and Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward directly to their state bar associations for formal disciplinary investigations. This fraudulent deal is a permanent disqualifier for three major reasons: -He tried to hand out a $1.8 billion taxpayer-funded payout scheme: Mr. Blanche tried to use public funds to build an unprecedented $1.8 billion slush fund. This massive fund was designed to financially reward the administration's political allies. Fortunately, massive public outcry and a swift court block stopped the scheme before any money could be distributed. - He tried to give a single wealthy family lifetime tax immunity: The settlement explicitly sought to block the IRS from auditing or investigating Donald Trump, his sons, and his family businesses, giving them a permanent pass from tax oversight that everyday, law-abiding taxpayers can never get. - He committed a fraud on the judiciary: The federal judge exposed that there was never a real legal dispute because Mr. Blanche’s DOJ completely abdicated its duty to defend the United States. The judge noted that only one party's interests—the Trump family's—were actually being represented by both sides of the case. An Attorney General who has just been referred to a state bar by a federal judge for violating their professional oath cannot lead our justice system. Please stand up for fiscal responsibility, protect the integrity of our courts, and vote NO on the confirmation of Todd Blanche.
