Oppose the SAVE Act and Protect Voting Access
To: Sen. Moran, Sen. Marshall
From: A verified voter in Wichita, KS
February 12
I am writing to urge you to vote NO on the SAVE Act when it comes before the Senate. This legislation poses a serious threat to voting rights by creating unnecessary barriers that would prevent millions of eligible Americans from registering to vote.
The SAVE Act contains two provisions that would fundamentally undermine election accessibility. First, it would require states to turn over their voter rolls to the Department of Homeland Security, centralizing control over state election systems in ways that raise serious concerns about federal overreach and data security. Second, it would mandate that all voters present a birth certificate or passport in person to register to vote or update their registration.
This documentation requirement is particularly troubling because 21 million American citizens lack easy access to birth certificates or passports. These documents can be expensive and time-consuming to obtain, especially for elderly voters, low-income citizens, and those who have moved frequently. Requiring in-person presentation creates additional hardships for people with disabilities, those living in rural areas far from registration offices, and working families who cannot take time off during business hours.
Our current voter registration systems already include verification processes that work effectively. The SAVE Act is not about election security but about making it harder for eligible citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote. States should maintain control over their own election systems rather than ceding authority to federal agencies.
I ask that you stand up for voting rights and oppose this legislation. Every eligible American should be able to register to vote without facing unnecessary obstacles. Please vote NO on the SAVE Act and protect the fundamental right to vote for all citizens in your state.
