Amazon Is Rigging Our Prices — Congress Must Act

To: Sen. Banks, Sen. Young, Rep. Spartz

From: A verified voter in Westfield, IN

April 25

Dear Representative, I am writing as a constituent to demand congressional action on the Amazon price-fixing case currently before California Superior Court. California Attorney General Rob Bonta has released unredacted evidence showing Amazon coordinated with vendors and major retailers — including Walmart, Chewy, Home Depot, and Levi Strauss — to artificially inflate consumer prices. The documented schemes include pressuring vendors to raise competitor prices, temporarily removing products to eliminate lower-priced options, and using third-party vendors as intermediaries to fix prices across platforms. This is not a civil matter alone. The conduct described constitutes potential criminal violations of the Sherman Antitrust Act. Americans are paying more for everyday goods — pants, eye drops, pet food, fertilizer — because the largest retailer in the country allegedly ran a coordinated price-fixing operation. I am asking you to: 1. Call on the Department of Justice Antitrust Division to open a criminal investigation into Amazon’s conduct 2. Support congressional oversight hearings on anticompetitive practices in e-commerce 3. Pursue legislative reinforcement of antitrust enforcement authority where current statutes are insufficient Market manipulation at this scale harms every American consumer. I expect you to act accordingly. Respectfully,
