Protect personal freedoms and privacy rights in Texas

To: Gov. Abbott, Sen. Campbell, Rep. Zwiener, Lt. Gov. Patrick

From: A constituent in Buda, TX

February 5

This proposed bill seeks to restrict businesses in Texas from selling obscene devices. While concerns around the sale of certain products may exist, imposing broad restrictions could infringe on personal freedoms and privacy rights. I believe the intent of this bill is not to protect children as it claims, but rather an attempt to continue the erasure of the transgender, LGBTQ+, and kink communities, by attacking their safe spaces and places of business/commerce through financial means. A more balanced approach considerate of diverse perspectives is warranted. Rather than outright bans, I urge exploring measures that uphold constitutional protections while addressing any legitimate public interests through reasonable guidelines and public education initiatives. Implementing overly restrictive policies risks unintended consequences and risks undermining individual liberties that are fundamental to our society. An open dialogue involving all stakeholders is needed to find a fair and sensible solution aligned with our shared values of personal autonomy and limited government overreach into private matters.
