Vote NO on the SAVE Act! I am livid and appalled that this stupid idea has been resurrected. It would disenfranchise and disempower millions of people whose birth name has changed, including every woman who took her husband’s name in marriage—69 million people. I thought Republicans were all about traditional marriage. Kansas already tried this nonsense and got our hats handed to us in court, because it is unconstitutional and you know it. Do not fob me off with excuses about how these people can get all the paperwork they would need and petition to get to vote. That takes time, often money, patience, transportation, and a reasonably sophisticated understanding of the governmental systems involved. A poor mother in rural Kansas or Wichita should not be punished, nor should adoptees or anyone else who changed their name. What if my house was destroyed in a tornado and I have none of these documents—you are going to impose yet another burden on me? This strongly discriminates against our military service members, and anyone else who has to move home frequently. And for what? No purpose whatsoever! Voter fraud is vanishingly rare in this country and there is absolutely no reason to impose unwarranted restrictions like this. Voting is not a privilege, it is a RIGHT. Vote no.
