The SAVE Act threatens to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters and undermine the integrity of our electoral system. By requiring burdensome documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration and updates, it creates unnecessary barriers that disproportionately impact women, people of color, rural residents, and those with disabilities. Estimates indicate over 21 million citizens lack ready access to such documents. This act disregards the reality that illegal voting is exceedingly rare while imposing draconian restrictions. We must protect every citizen's fundamental right to vote freely and equitably. I urge you to oppose this harmful legislation that undermines our democracy's core principles. Safeguarding fair and accessible elections should be the paramount priority.
