PETITION TO IMMEDIATELY END THE SEPARATION OF MINORS FROM THEIR PARENTS BY ICE
To: Rep. Self, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn
From: A constituent in Plano, TX
January 22
PETITION TO IMMEDIATELY END THE SEPARATION OF MINORS FROM THEIR PARENTS BY ICE To the President of the United States, The Secretary of Homeland Security, The Attorney General, and Members of Congress: We, the undersigned, demand the immediate and permanent prohibition of the removal, detention, or separation of minors from their parents or legal guardians by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement except in cases where a court of law has found clear evidence of abuse or imminent danger. The separation of children from their parents is a profound violation of human rights, family integrity, and child welfare standards recognized under U.S. law and international conventions to which the United States is a party. Children are not collateral. Families are not bargaining tools. Government power must have limits. We affirm the following: No child should be taken from a parent for civil immigration enforcement purposes. Immigration violations are civil matters — not crimes that justify family destruction. Family unity is a fundamental human right. Forced separation causes documented, long-term psychological harm to children, including trauma, attachment disorders, anxiety, depression, and developmental regression. Children are not property of the state. Detaining or relocating minors without parental consent or judicial oversight violates basic constitutional protections and due process. There is no credible evidence that family separation deters migration. It does, however, permanently damage children and stain the moral authority of this nation. Oversight and accountability are mandatory. Any agency that removes a child from a parent must be subject to immediate judicial review, transparent reporting, and independent child-welfare monitoring. We demand: An absolute ban on the separation of minors from parents or legal guardians for immigration enforcement purposes Immediate reunification of any child currently separated, with access to medical, psychological, and legal support Congressional legislation codifying this ban so it cannot be reversed by executive action Independent oversight of DHS and ICE child-related actions Full public reporting of all cases involving minors The treatment of children is a moral line. A government that crosses it forfeits legitimacy. We call on our elected officials to act now — not with statements, not with delays, but with binding law and enforceable protections. Signed, Concerned citizens, parents, caregivers, professionals, and human beings
