The Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights plays a crucial role in protecting the rights of students with disabilities and ensuring equal access to education. Recent workforce reductions have severely hampered its ability to investigate complaints and enforce compliance with laws like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This will leave many students vulnerable and without proper accommodations and support services. As an institution dedicated to empowering all individuals, we must urge our representatives to fully fund and staff the Office of Civil Rights. Upholding civil rights and providing an equitable education for children with disabilities should be a top priority. Their futures and the principles of an inclusive society depend on it.
