Recent reports indicate that wealthy Chinese investors are quietly funneling millions into private ventures controlled by Elon Musk, including SpaceX, Neuralink, and xAI. These investments are made through opaque special-purpose vehicles (SPVs) that shield the identities of Chinese investors, avoiding scrutiny amid worsening U.S.-China relations.
While SPVs are legal, their use in this context raises serious national security and ethical concerns. Musk is an influential figure in U.S. policy, business, and even military-related technologies through SpaceX’s Starlink. The covert nature of these investments raises questions about foreign influence and potential conflicts of interest.
China-based asset managers have reportedly marketed Musk’s close ties with U.S. leadership as a selling point to Chinese investors, further complicating his role in shaping national policy. Derek Scissors of the American Enterprise Institute warns that Musk’s financial ties to China may compromise American interests.
Given the national security implications, I urge you to push for greater transparency in foreign investments in strategic U.S. companies, particularly those involved in space, AI, and biotechnology. Congress must investigate these financial arrangements and ensure that foreign capital does not compromise U.S. interests.
Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.
