I am writing to urge you to oppose any future government appointments for Kristi Noem and to support a thorough investigation into her conduct as Homeland Security Secretary. Her recent firing as the first Cabinet secretary to leave during Trump's second term should mark the end of her service in any federal capacity, not a temporary setback. Noem's tenure at the Department of Homeland Security was marked by growing criticism of her leadership that ultimately led to her dismissal. The circumstances surrounding her departure raise serious questions about her fitness for public service. I believe her conduct warrants investigation for potential fraud and dereliction of duty rather than consideration for future positions. The Department of Homeland Security oversees critical functions including border security, immigration enforcement, cybersecurity, and disaster response. Leadership failures at this agency directly impact the safety and security of constituents in our district. When a Cabinet secretary is removed amid widespread criticism, Congress has a responsibility to examine what went wrong and ensure accountability. I am asking you to take two specific actions. First, publicly oppose any attempt to appoint Noem to another government position, whether in the executive branch or elsewhere. Second, call for or support congressional oversight investigations into her conduct as Homeland Security Secretary to determine whether her actions merit further consequences. Federal officials must be held to the highest standards of integrity and competence. Allowing someone dismissed for leadership failures to simply move to another role without accountability sets a dangerous precedent. Our government needs leaders who demonstrate both ethical conduct and effective management, particularly in agencies responsible for national security.
