Vote no on SB 1361. This bill would gut SB 79 by exempting LA Metro from requirements to build housing near transit stations, and it's exactly the kind of NIMBY obstruction that created our housing crisis.
LA County produced only 325 housing units per 1,000 people over the last forty years. The region continues falling short of state-mandated housing goals. High costs are forcing people out of California, and we cannot let local officials keep blocking density near the transit we built with taxpayer money.
Metro's claim that SB 79 disrupts planning is backwards. Cities like Paramount and Downey opposed SB 79 because they don't want housing, period. Allowing developers to build 10 stories instead of 4 near rail stations is exactly what we need. Senator Durazo voted for SB 79 last year and now she's trying to carve out an exemption for the entire LA region.
Reject SB 1361 and protect SB 79. Los Angeles needs housing now.
