DO SOMETHING - Every American Wants Affordable Healthcare!
To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Carter
From: A constituent in Leander, TX
December 2
Healthcare is not an “entitlement.” Healthcare is a human right — and the United States is the only wealthy nation on Earth that still refuses to treat it that way. The facts are not up for debate. We spend more per person on healthcare than any other country, yet Americans die younger, mothers face higher mortality rates, and over 100 million people drown in medical debt. One in five Americans skip necessary care because the price is simply too high. That is not freedom. That is not choice. That is punishment for the basic human condition of getting sick. Meanwhile, every other advanced democracy — Canada, Germany, France, Japan, the UK, Australia, the Netherlands — guarantees affordable, universal care. They all do it differently, but they all do it. They all ensure that a cancer diagnosis doesn’t destroy your entire financial life. Only in America can a broken bone or a chronic illness leave a family bankrupt. WHY? Why do we accept a system where private equity can gut hospitals for profit, yet ordinary Americans ration insulin? Why do we accept a system where GoFundMe has become one of the largest forms of healthcare financing in the United States? Why do we accept a Congress that shrugs while insurers reward executives with multi-million-dollar bonuses for denying care? This crisis is not complicated. It is not mysterious. It is political will — or the lack of it. Americans are not begging for special privileges. We are demanding basic human dignity. I am demanding the following: 1. Real, enforceable legislation that makes healthcare affordable for every American, not just those lucky enough to have employer coverage. 2. Serious limits on predatory pricing, facility fees, and surprise billing loopholes that drain families dry. 3. A clear, concrete pathway to universal coverage — the system every other developed nation already provides. America invented Medicare. We know exactly how to build a humane, efficient, life-saving healthcare system. What we lack is the courage from our elected officials to act. Stop letting lobbyists write our health policy. Stop protecting profit margins while Americans spiral into medical bankruptcy. Stop pretending that this is normal, acceptable, or inevitable. Congress works for the people — not Cigna, not UnitedHealth, not Big Pharma shareholders. You have the power. You have the responsibility. Do your job. Fix this. DO SOMETHING.
