Demand that the DOJ Surrender the Epstein Files NOW
To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Roy
From: A constituent in Bandera, TX
January 27
I am writing as a deeply outraged constituent to demand decisive and forceful action by Congress against the Department of Justice for its ongoing violations of federal law related to the release of the Jeffrey Epstein investigative files. You and your colleagues passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act with overwhelming bipartisan support, requiring the DOJ to release all unclassified records related to the Epstein and Maxwell investigations by December 19, 2025. That deadline has passed, and yet the DOJ has complied in only the most superficial manner—releasing a small fraction of documents, many of which are heavily redacted or substantively meaningless. Top DOJ officials have admitted they still have more than two million documents under review, with less than 1 % of the files made public, and no concrete timeline for compliance. These actions—or perhaps more accurately, inactions—are nothing short of a blatant defiance of Congress’s will and the rule of law. Despite clear statutory direction and near-unanimous approval from both chambers, DOJ leadership continues to stall, obfuscate, and provide excuses about “substantial progress” without ever fulfilling the statutory mandate. The severity of this failure cannot be overstated: The DOJ missed a clear statutory deadline and remains non-compliant with a law it was bound to enforce. A federal judge has rebuffed efforts to compel independent oversight at DOJ’s request, highlighting the department’s refusal to be held accountable. DOJ officials have actively argued against judicial appointment of a neutral monitor—contrary to the spirit of transparency and accountability. This is not a bureaucratic oversight—it is a dereliction of duty that undermines public trust in our justice system, disrespects the families of Epstein’s victims, and makes a mockery of congressional oversight. The department’s continued redactions, delayed releases, and refusal to fully comply with the law suggest a disturbing lack of accountability that must be confronted. I therefore demand that you: Initiate immediate contempt proceedings against Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche for refusal to comply with a duly enacted federal statute. Support or draft legislation to strengthen enforcement mechanisms for congressional transparency laws, including meaningful penalties—criminal and civil—for executive branch noncompliance. Hold prompt oversight hearings that compel DOJ officials to testify under oath about delays, redaction practices, and any actions taken to impede full disclosure. Advocate for judicial enforcement relief and any lawful means necessary to force compliance, including injunctions, subpoenas, sanctions, and referral to appropriate ethics and legal oversight bodies. The American people deserve more than half-measures and empty “progress” reports. They deserve the truth, full transparency, and consequences for those who choose to hide behind bureaucratic delay rather than uphold the law. Failure to act boldly and swiftly in this moment would be a historic abdication of Congress’s constitutional responsibility to check executive lawlessness. I expect your prompt and forceful response.
