An Open Letter
To: Rep. Stauber
From: A verified voter in Princeton, MN
May 19
I am writing as your constituent to request a clear explanation for your recent NO vote on the House resolution directing the President to end U.S. involvement in the conflict with Iran.
Many of us here in Minnesota see this conflict as unnecessary and avoidable — a crisis created by the administration’s own decisions and escalations. The United States should not be drawn into an open‑ended war without a compelling national‑security justification, and certainly not without explicit congressional authorization. The War Powers Resolution exists for exactly this reason: to prevent presidents from manufacturing or prolonging conflicts without accountability.
Your vote against ending U.S. hostilities raises serious questions. I am asking you to explain:
- Why you opposed a measure designed to bring an end to a conflict that Congress never authorized.
- What specific objectives you believe justify continuing this confrontation.
- How continued military involvement serves the interests of Minnesotans, our service members, and the country.
- What conditions you believe must be met before you would support de‑escalation or withdrawal.
This war was not inevitable. It was a policy choice. And Congress has a responsibility to prevent unnecessary conflicts from becoming permanent ones.
I look forward to your explanation and to understanding how your vote aligns with the long‑term interests of the people you represent.
