An Open Letter
To: Pres. Trump
From: A constituent in Phoenix, AZ
March 20, 2025
I write to you today as a concerned citizen who values the U.S. Constitution, the separation of powers, and the integrity of our judicial system. Recent rhetoric and actions from the executive branch regarding judges who have ruled against unconstitutional policies are troubling, to say the least. These judges—many of whom are conservative—are fulfilling their constitutional duty to interpret the law, not bending to political will. That is precisely how our system is supposed to work.
The United States was founded on the principle of checks and balances, ensuring that no single branch holds absolute power. The executive branch is not above judicial review, nor should it attempt to intimidate or undermine judges who rule against it. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court himself has voiced concern over such attempts to delegitimize the judiciary—an alarming sign that these actions are straying far from the constitutional framework that governs our nation.
Respectfully, I urge you to adhere to the Constitution and respect the judiciary’s role in our democracy. The rule of law is not an inconvenience—it is the foundation of our republic. America does not function as a government of unchecked executive authority; rather, it thrives on the balance between its branches, ensuring no leader or administration operates without oversight.
I sincerely hope that future statements and actions from the executive branch reflect a commitment to upholding these principles rather than attempting to erode them. The American people are watching. Our allies are watching. The world is watching.
