Call for immediate ceasefire and humanitarian aid in Gaza
To: Pres. Biden
From: A constituent in Columbia, MD
November 21
The ongoing violence in Gaza has had a catastrophic impact on civilians, especially women and children. According to Oxfam's analysis, more women and children have been killed by the Israeli military in Gaza over the past year than any other recent conflict in a single year - over 6,000 women and 11,000 children. Israeli explosive weapons have hit civilian infrastructure like homes, schools, hospitals, and aid distribution points on an hourly basis. This level of destruction and loss of innocent life is unacceptable. Netanyahu has been indicted for war crimes by the ICC, and his brutality existed toward Gaza and the West Bank long before Hamas' horrific attack on October 7th. The settlements in the West Bank are against international law, and the Palestinians there are subjected to what can only be called apartheid. The starvation of children should not be tolerated. The bombing of hospitals cannot be tolerated. If Israel wants to target Hamas, believing they are hiding in populated areas, it must be done on foot in a targeted way to reduce civilian casualties. We are supporting genocide. This must not tarnish your legacy - you do not want your name in a book next to those who supported apartheid and genocide. I urge immediate action to end the violence, implement a permanent ceasefire, hold those responsible accountable, and grant access for humanitarian aid to address the dire situation.
