Demand for Impeachment and Immediate Accountability for Lawless ICE Killing

To: Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman, Rep. Smucker

From: A verified voter in Lancaster, PA

January 7

I am writing to demand the immediate initiation of impeachment proceedings and congressional oversight against Kristi Noem for her role in directing and defending a lawless Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation that resulted in what appears to be an extrajudicial killing. The events captured on video today are horrifying. They show a masked federal agent carrying out lethal force in circumstances that the Administration has rushed to defend with claims that are plainly contradicted by the footage itself. This is not a matter of partisan disagreement—it is a matter of the rule of law, constitutional limits on executive power, and basic human rights. When federal agents operate with concealed identities, without accountability, and with apparent disregard for due process, they cease to be law enforcement and instead resemble secret police. That is incompatible with any democracy, let alone one governed by a Constitution that guarantees due process and equal protection under the law. I am sickened by the reflexive lying, the gaslighting of the public, and the normalization of state violence. The executive branch does not get to simply declare its own innocence while suppressing transparency. Congress has both the authority and the obligation to act when executive officials abuse power, mislead the public, and permit or encourage unlawful violence. At a minimum, Congress must: • Open a full and public investigation into this ICE operation and the chain of command responsible. • Subpoena all body-camera footage, communications, and operational orders. • Require that federal law-enforcement officers conducting domestic operations be clearly identifiable, including the immediate removal of masks except where narrowly justified and documented. • Hold Kristi Noem accountable for directing, enabling, or defending actions that violate the Constitution and federal law. If Congress fails to act, it will be complicit. Silence or delay in the face of such abuses signals that federal officials are above the law. They are not.
