NIOSH, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, plays a vital role in safeguarding the well-being of every American worker. Its research identifies and mitigates hazards in various industries, from mining to firefighting to law enforcement. By eliminating NIOSH, we are removing the only federal agency dedicated to occupational health and safety research, leaving workers vulnerable to emerging threats. Historical examples like black lung disease in coal miners highlight the importance of NIOSH's work in recognizing and preventing workplace illnesses and injuries. Cutting this agency will endanger millions of workers and halt critical ongoing studies. I urge you to reverse course on these destructive cuts and reinstate NIOSH's workforce and funding to protect the safety and lives of American workers across all sectors. NIOSH's research directly informs workplace standards and enforcement - without it, we lose our ability to identify and address new occupational hazards proactively. America's workforce deserves better than to be put at unnecessary risk.
