Honor WWII Hero Doris Miller, not Trump

To: Sen. Gallego, Sen. Kelly, Rep. Grijalva

From: A verified voter in Tucson, AZ

August 23

The country's newest aircraft carrier was to be named after a true hero and casualty of WWII - Doris Miller. We heard today that the Navy has changed that plan and now will name the ship after the current sitting president, a pretender and five-time draft dodger. This is abhorrent to me and I urge your to fight it. Doris Miller, serving in the only position he was allowed to - a cook - nonetheless charged into the battle when Pearl Harbor was attacked, pulling two soldiers to safety and then manning a machine gun (on which he had no training) to fight back against the attacking Japanese forces. He represents the finest qualities we want in our soldiers and our citizens. Trump, on the other hand, is a despicable, criminal, narcissist who wants ships and buildings named for him in the vain hope that he will be remembered. He already knows that a large portion of the country wants to be rid of him and forget his name along with his ruinous time in office, as soon as possible. Please. I urge you to fight for Doris Miller. Naming our newest carrier for a true hero, and the first African-American to be honored in such a way, is the most patriotic and American action we can take. Thank you.
