If anyone had any doubt where the president’s loyalties lie, you have only to watch the fawning and groveling language used by Trump defending, while hosting, a Saudi Prince. And CIA-determined sponsor of the murder of a WaPo reporter.
“A lot of people didn’t like that gentleman that you’re talking about. Whether you like him or didn’t like him, things happen, but [Mohammed] knew nothing about it,” Trump said in response to a question about the undereducated journalist. “And we can leave it at that. You don’t have to embarrass our guest by asking a question like that.”
And it’s not embarrassing watching the president of the United States make apologies because a reporter asked about the murder of a peer? While the president blames the victim for being unlikable.? Which seems to imply a justifiable reason for murder.
It is not the reporter who asked the question that should be ashamed. It’s our craven president, lacking in any empathy or human decency, yukking it up with a killer. A killer as determined by our own government.
Instead Mohammed bin Salman arrived to a grand welcome from Trump at the WH, greeted at the South Portico with an honor guard of black horses and herald trumpeters. Our president pulled out all the stops for the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia. Who until now had been branded a pariah in 2018 after the CIA concluded that he had approved the killing of Jamal Khashoggi.
This is grotesque to behold. Trump is selling America’s soul to the highest bidder. And whatever investment they claim is coming into our country is on its face an attempt to own the country as well.
9/11. Jamal Khashoggi. If these two events don’t repulse the man sitting in the Oval, and the party that put him there, then we deserve to be sold to the highest bidder. Because the values that America has stood for are dead and buried along with Khashoggi and the victims of 9/11.
Things happen. But it’s just another disgusting day among many for the Trump administration.
