An Open Letter
To: Rep. Gooden
From: A verified voter in Garland, TX
February 28, 2025
I see that you voted in favor of the HOR budget resolution on Wednesday.
That bill, if passed in its current form by the Senate and signed by the President, will cut $880 BILLION out of Medicade (or 88 BILLION a year for ten years)
In Texas HOR 5, that is $1.79 billion cut.
142,941 people receive Medicaid, and it serves 17.28% of the district.
We stand to lose $1.79 billion in aid for the most vulnerable among us. Most of them, like my father-in-law paid into the system their entire working lives.
There were 299,897 voters in 2024 according to Ballotpedia.
Approximately 18.5% of your constituents in 2024 receive Medicaid 142,941/773,000.
This is being falsely promoted as an effort to save taxpayer money when in fact it is an effort to find money to continue to give the richest 0.001 percent of Americans a huge tax break that, in fact, will not REDUCE the deficit as promised, but actually increase it $2.5-3 TRILLION over ten years which is $275 BILLION a year. (The government “program cuts savings” having already been accounted for as 2 TRILLION is cut off of the above mentioned amount which is actually 4.5 TRILLION in total)
So, it seems that you are perfectly fine to take that needed money from District 5’s most vulnerable and needy, correct?
You are a real fiscal hawk.
Uh, I mean vulture.
One who works for the falconer, uh vulturer ?, king.
Oh, I also see today that the staff of Medicare is being halved. I am a new member of Medicare, again, having paid into it during my lifetime doing some hard, dirty and demanding work. It’s my money that I made a good faith contract to receive after I turned 65 which was later goal post shifted to 66 and 10 months. Regardless, it’s MY money.
Sir, when will you meet in person with your constituents or are you afraid to hear what we think of current policies?
