Prevent Unconstitutional Federal Interference in Our Elections

To: Rep. Beatty, Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted

From: A verified voter in Columbus, OH

June 13

An unlawful federal power grab is attempting to bypass the U.S. Constitution and turn our local Post Office into a gatekeeper for our ballots. Following a recent executive order, the administration is pushing a USPS rule that would force states to submit sensitive voter information to a centralized federal system—essentially allowing Washington to dictate who is allowed to vote by mail.  This is a dangerous and unconstitutional violation of our laws for three main reasons: - Violating the Constitution: Article I, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution explicitly gives election authority to state legislatures and Congress—not the President. This administration lacks the legal authority to unilaterally invent parallel federal voter tracking lists or interfere with state voting rules.  - Fiscal Chaos for Local Taxpayers: This is an illegal, unfunded federal mandate. Our local county election offices will be forced to spend thousands of local taxpayer dollars to rewrite their software and comply with these heavy-handed federal demands—all just months before the 2026 midterms.  - Security & Bureaucracy Risks: Centralizing massive amounts of voter data into a brand-new federal database is a security nightmare and a recipe for administrative chaos. We should be protecting voter privacy, not creating new targets for hackers and system-wide glitches right before an election. I am calling on our legislators to defend the Constitution and protect our state’s right to manage its own elections. I urge you to: 1. Sponsor/Co-sponsor Protective Legislation: Introduce or support legislation that explicitly prohibits the USPS from collecting, storing, or maintaining state voter registration data or acting as a gatekeeper for mail-in ballots. 2. Condition Future Postal Funding: Support an amendment to all upcoming postal appropriations or reform bills that mandates the total defunding of any programs related to the "Mail-In and Absentee Participation Lists." Ensure not a single taxpayer dollar is spent on federal election interference. 3. Demand Oversight & Accountability: Formally request an emergency hearing of the House Oversight Committee to put the Postmaster General under oath regarding the legality of their current rulemaking process. We need to see the communications between the White House and the USPS. It is time to stop this illegal federal interference, protect local taxpayers, and keep our election administration exactly where the Constitution puts it: in the hands of our local communities.
