Support Minimum Aircraft Seat Standards for Safety and Dignity

I am writing to urge your immediate action regarding the "densification" of commercial airline cabins. Across the industry, high-density international flights have become so cramped that it is now common for passengers to be physically pinned against one another for hours at a time. For many, this experience is not just uncomfortable. It is fundamentally degrading. It forces passengers to second-guess their own health and well-being, only to realize the problem isn't their bodies; it is a deliberate design choice by airlines to prioritize profit density over human dignity. No American should be made to feel they "do not fit" in a standard seat simply because an airline squeezed an extra chair into a row designed for fewer. As my representative, I ask you to hold the FAA accountable to the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 and support the Stop Airplane Seat Shrinking Act. Specifically, I urge you to: 1. Establish Minimum Dimensions: Mandate federal minimums for seat width and pitch. Safety and dignity should not be "premium" features. 2. Mandate Realistic Evacuation Testing: Current "90-second" tests do not reflect the reality of high-density 10-abreast seating or diverse passenger demographics. 3. Address Health Risks: Recognize the increased risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and physical strain caused by "slimline" seating. Airlines are intentionally making Economy unbearable to "nudge" passengers into expensive upgrades. This is a matter of consumer protection and public safety. I look forward to seeing your leadership in restoring dignity and safety to American air travel.
