Reject the Dominion Energy & NextEra Merger – Protect Virginia Ratepayers

To: Del. Feggans, Gov. Spanberger, Sen. Rouse

From: A verified voter in Virginia Beach, VA

October 21

As your constituent living in Chesapeake, I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed $67 billion merger between Dominion Energy and NextEra Energy. This transaction poses significant risks to Virginia ratepayers. Handing over control of our state's primary energy grid to a Florida-based corporation reduces local oversight and accountability. With electricity demands surging across the Commonwealth due to massive data center development, everyday families should not have their utility bills driven up to subsidize corporate profits and out-of-state interests. I support the findings of the State Corporation Commission (SCC) staff, who have recommended a rejection of this buyout. I urge you to protect consumer interests by taking the following actions: 1 Issue a public statement opposing the Dominion-NextEra merger.
2 Support the SCC's regulatory independence in denying this transaction. 3 Join fellow legislators in calling for a special legislative session to thoroughly vet this deal, safeguard consumer rates, and protect Virginia’s grid sovereignty. Thank you for your leadership and your dedication to protecting the families of Chesapeake.
