Wetlands that were once federally regulated are no longer protected. The Trump Administration's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is narrowing long‑standing definitions. The Clean Water Act (CWA) no longer includes seasonal and isolated wetlands. Wetlands in our state are at risk of being dredged, filled, or polluted with discharge. The EPA is discarding science and limiting the scope of oversight. This undoes decades of progress toward cleaner, safer drinking water. These rollbacks weaken public health protections. The loss of federal oversight means that protecting wetlands is now up to the states.
Our state relies on healthy wetlands and waterways. Wetlands improve water quality. They shield us from extreme weather and reduce flooding. They support wildlife. This encourages recreation and economic growth. Destroying wetlands increases the chance of flooding and costly recovery efforts. Discarding wetland protections is bad for our communities and our economy.
You’re my elected official. I'm asking you to protect all our state's wetlands. Strengthen laws to safeguard isolated and seasonal wetlands. This will protect these ecosystems for generations. It will also boost the economic benefits of outdoor recreation.
Healthy wetlands are vital to our future health and economy.
You have a responsibility to protect these important ecosystems. By protecting wetlands and waterways, you protect our communities.
