An Open Letter

To: Sen. VanValkenburg, Del. LeVere Bolling, Gov. Spanberger

From: A constituent in Henrico, VA

June 17

I’m writing as a Virginia resident to ask you to support funding and extending Virginia’s Electric Vehicle Rebate Program. The program was created in law and would provide a $2,500 rebate for eligible new or used EV purchases, with an additional $2,000 enhanced rebate for income-qualified residents, but it remains unfunded. With federal EV purchase credits no longer available for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025, Virginia consumers have lost a major affordability tool. Funding this program would help Virginians lower transportation costs, support consumer choice, and make an already-authorized state program usable. Please support a budget amendment that appropriates funding to the Electric Vehicle Rebate Program Fund and extends the program beyond January 1, 2027.
