I write to you as a concerned American who is deeply troubled by the state of our democracy. Senator Angus King’s speech on the Senate floor laid out a stark warning about the unprecedented and unconstitutional actions of the current administration. He asked a crucial question: Are there no red lines?
In recent days, we have seen federal judges block some of President Trump’s most extreme and illegal orders. These rulings confirm what many of us already know—this administration is actively violating the Constitution and dismantling the foundations of our democracy. From allowing unelected individuals like Elon Musk and his so-called “Department of Government Efficiency” to operate without oversight, to unilaterally dismantling agencies like the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, to targeting USAID employees without cause, the pattern is clear: this is an assault on the very system designed to protect the American people.
This has certainly crossed a red line for me. My question to you is: Has it crossed one for you?
If it has, what action will you take to uphold your oath to protect the Constitution? What concrete steps will you support to ensure that power remains in the hands of the people—not an unchecked executive or his unelected cronies?
And if this does not cross a red line for you, I ask you to explain why not. At what point does an administration’s overreach become unacceptable? If the erosion of constitutional safeguards and the consolidation of power in one man’s hands is not alarming enough, then what is?
The foundation of our democracy is that it is formed by and for the people. Right now, the American people are watching, calling, and demanding accountability. I urge you to be on the right side of history. What steps will Congress take to protect the Constitution and the American people from this growing authoritarian threat?
I look forward to your response.
