An Open Letter

To: Sen. Scott, Sen. Moody, Rep. Rutherford

From: A verified voter in Jacksonville, FL

March 8

I am writing because I am deeply concerned about your recent responses to constituents who have reached out regarding the current administration. It is troubling to hear that people are being discouraged from calling and emailing, especially when open communication is a fundamental part of representative government. Additionally, I have noticed the increasing trend of town halls being closed across the country. Town halls are one of the few remaining opportunities for the public to speak directly to those elected to serve them. Shutting them down isolates elected officials from the very people they are supposed to represent. This is not how democracy is meant to function. Your duty is not just to those who agree with you, but to all of us. We expect accessibility, accountability, and a willingness to engage in open dialogue. I urge you to keep town halls open and to listen to your constituents, even when our views differ from yours. That is the responsibility you accepted when you took office. I look forward to seeing greater engagement with the public moving forward. Thank you
