I am writing as a Pennsylvania constituent urging you to vote NO on the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.
This legislation would require documentary proof of citizenship in order to register to vote in federal elections. While framed as election security, it risks disenfranchising eligible American citizens — including seniors, married women whose names have changed, rural voters, low-income residents, military families, and naturalized citizens — who may not have immediate access to qualifying documentation.
There is no evidence of widespread non-citizen voting in federal elections that would justify imposing new nationwide barriers. Federal law already prohibits non-citizens from voting, and states already maintain verification systems. Creating additional documentary hurdles does not strengthen democracy; it restricts participation.
Pennsylvania voters deserve access to the ballot without unnecessary federal mandates that complicate registration and burden election officials. The right to vote is foundational. Any proposal that risks denying that right to eligible citizens must be rejected unless there is clear, compelling evidence of a problem — and that evidence has not been demonstrated.
I am asking directly:
• Will you vote NO on the SAVE Act?
• Will you publicly oppose measures that create new federal barriers to voter registration?
• Will you defend access to the ballot for all eligible Pennsylvanians?
Election integrity and voter access are not opposing values. We can protect both without disenfranchising lawful voters.
I urge you to stand on the side of participation, constitutional rights, and evidence-based policy.
