NO to abolishing the Department of Education

To: Rep. Shreve, Sen. Banks, Sen. Young

From: A constituent in Greenwood, IN

February 20

I am writing to urge you to vote against any legislation seeking to abolish the U.S. Department of Education, including H.R. 899. Eliminating the department would devastate students, teachers, and families across the country. The Department of Education is responsible for overseeing federal student loan programs, enforcing civil rights protections, and ensuring low-income students receive the resources they need. Without it, states would be left to fend for themselves, deepening inequality and leaving millions of students behind. Public education should be a right for everyone, not a privilege for the wealthy. The Department of Education ensures that students with disabilities receive proper support, that Title IX protections remain in place, and that federal funding reaches the schools and students who need it most. Eliminating it would be a catastrophic mistake. I strongly urge you to stand against this reckless legislation and protect the future of education in America. Please confirm that you will vote against any attempt to abolish the Department of Education.
