First amendment rights are important

To: Sen. Ernst, Sen. Grassley, Rep. Feenstra

From: A constituent in Glenwood, IA

March 12, 2024

The proposed H.R. 7521, while aiming to protect national security, may inadvertently infringe upon our fundamental right to freedom of speech. By prohibiting the distribution, maintenance, or updating of certain applications, we risk limiting the platforms through which individuals can express themselves. While the concern for data security is valid, it is crucial to balance this with the preservation of our democratic values. Therefore, it is requested to reconsider passing this bill in its current form and explore alternative methods to ensure national security without compromising freedom of speech.
