An Open Letter

To: Rep. Snyder, Sen. Bumstead

From: A constituent in Muskegon, MI

Support SB 768 — Curtail rising energy prices. Michiganders need a break. We’re already contending with a skyrocketing affordability crisis on multiple fronts, from housing to groceries to healthcare and have fewer public services to rely on than ever. Electricity is a necessity that should be fairly regulated and affordable for everyone. Energy companies asking to raise prices simply because they can, hurts us in multiple ways. It makes it harder to start or grow a small business and forces people on fixed incomes into unfair choices. No one should have to choose between staying warm in the winter or being able to afford groceries or medications. Michigan’s electricity rates have climbed at a rate much higher than almost everywhere else in the US. We need regulations like SB 768 to protect hardworking Michiganders from unnecessary price hikes.
