The Trump administration’s renewed push to take over Greenland is profoundly alarming and dangerously out of step with both international norms and the clear wishes of the American people. Recent polling shows that fewer than one in five Americans support acquiring Greenland, and large majorities oppose any use of military force to do so, underscoring how isolated this idea is from public sentiment.
Echoing the worst examples of territorial aggression, this scheme evokes disturbing parallels to Russia’s ongoing efforts to carve off parts of Ukraine, raising fears about a broader erosion of sovereign borders and global stability.
Greenland’s own leaders and residents have been unequivocal that their homeland is not for sale, and that they reject becoming a bargaining chip in great‑power games.
For the sake of American democracy, NATO unity, and respect for self‑determination, Congress must finally step up, assert its constitutional role, and stop this reckless, ludicrous plan—and if Congress refuses to act, Republican leaders must confront Donald Trump now, or they will feel the consequences of ignoring public sentiment when voters speak in the midterm elections.
