Reject discriminatory healthcare amendments against transgender Americans
To: Sen. Cantwell, Sen. Murray

The proposed amendments to the spending bill that would ban Medicaid coverage for transition-related care for transgender individuals of all ages are deeply concerning. Denying access to medically necessary healthcare puts the well-being and lives of thousands of transgender Americans at grave risk. Transition-related care, including hormone therapy and gender-affirming surgeries, is vital for the mental and physical health of many in the transgender community. Stripping Medicaid coverage would make this essential care unaffordable for low-income individuals, forcing them to go without treatment or pursue unsafe alternatives. No one should be denied healthcare due to their gender identity. Moreover, these provisions serve only to benefit wealthy corporations and the rich through tax cuts, while inflicting harm on some of the most vulnerable members of society. Healthcare is a fundamental human right that should be accessible to all, regardless of income level or gender identity. I urge you to reject these discriminatory amendments that prioritize profits over people's lives and well-being. True healthcare reform should expand access and protect the rights of all citizens, not take them away.
